Bunker 599 on the cover of the Yearbook Landscape architecture & Urban design 2012

Vacant NL's vision of how to deal with large amounts of vacant, govermentally owned cultural heritage, is the starting point of the Yearbook. Jelte Boeijenga, member of the selection commission, writes in the introduction that projects involving these vacant buildings play an important role in this year's Yearbook. The reason for this is that one of the most important challenges of the coming years is central in these projects, namely: giving new function and meaning to that which is already there. Bunker 599 and Fort Werk aan 't Spoel are discussed as examples thereof.
